Colleen Corbett, Writer: The future is now.
When I was 10 years old, I wrote and illustrated a short story for a school assignment. On the "author's page," I beseeched my fellow fifth graders to look for other stories written by me "in the future." The future is now, with this website. Back in 1969, the thought of friends seeing my name in a byline was thrilling—a child's fantasy. That's not what is important today. Yet I do have a wish that my writing resonates with people, that my words connect with my fellow humans in a meaningful way, and that I learn something about myself in the process.
What I offer:
My writing includes personal essays and memoir pieces. I dabble in fiction, too.
Creative writing
Short stories, essays, and personal reflections that explore the human experience.
Memoir & narrative
Bringing personal stories to life with depth and authenticity.

About Colleen Corbett
I trained to be a writer during much of my undergraduate work, but never pursued it as a career. (I opted for a paycheck instead of pursuing a dream.) In my 46 years of employment, I have been a healthcare counselor, program manager, and teacher. In my personal life, I have been a daughter, sister, wife, mother and "nana." My work and home life have often provided intrinsic motivation to create stories that make baffling situations understandable.
In my 50s, I realized that writing was the one thing I would do and never look at the clock to see how much time had gone by. I started taking writing classes each summer at the Summer Writer's Institute at Washington University in St. Louis. In the 2020 summer session, five fellow students formed a writer's group, and ever since, we have met every five weeks to workshop each other's writing. The pieces on the website a fruits of these labors.
